Alden Terrace Tape Ministry

Alden Terrace Tape MinistryEvery Sunday afternoon at 1:15 pm a volunteer from Zion shows the morning taped worship service at Alden Terrace Residence. Those residents who wish to view the service meet in the Library. The volunteer puts the tape in the VCR, passes our the Bulletins which include the music selections. Sometimes the volunteer will need to escort the residents to and from the viewing. If you would like to volunteer for this service, please contact Jean Grandt.

Fish Lake

Every Summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day Sunday the youth group at Zion travel out to Fish Lake Beach Campground in Volo to help spread God’s word to others. The youth take an active part in setting up a church service at the campground every Sunday morning which begins at 10:30 am. They do it all including passing out worship service booklets and music, giving the three readings from the Bible, and leading the services.

A keyboardist supplies the accompaniment and the sermonette is given by a different adult member of the church each week. It is a great experience to be able to reach out to some that don’t have a church to call there own and to those who spend their summers out there regularly as well as those who are out of town and in ours for the weekend.

There is also Sunday School for the kids that takes place before the church service. Sunday School starts at 9:45 am and then leads right into church. The service is held under a pavilion so it doesn’t matter, rain or shine, the service goes on outside at Fish Lake.

The campground is located off Route 12 just one block north of Route 120. Zion has been an active presence at Fish Lake for over 15 years.

McHenry Villa Fellowship

Pastor Loest and other volunteers meet with residents of the McHenry Villa on the 3rd Sunday evening at 6:00 pm. The gathering place is in the activity room. Pastor reads scripture and has a short homily. Stories and poems are shared along with prayer requests. Hymns are sung with or without accompaniment. Light refreshments are served. Young and/or old are very welcome to join the fellowship.

Narthex Communion

Reinstating Narthex Communion, beginning Wednesday, February 16 at 1:00 pm. Future dates will be announced. This is a regular worship service held in the sanctuary. The attendees sit in every other pew in order that the Pastor can serve the sacrament where the people sit. They do not have to walk up to the altar. Hymns are sung, usually with organ or piano accompaniment. The reason it is called “Narthex Communion” is because light refreshments are served in the Narthex for a time of fellowship after the service. If you need a ride, please contact Dawn at 815-385-0859 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
