Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

O sorrow dread! Our God is dead, Upon the cross extended. There His love enlivened us, As His life was ended. (O Darkest Woe, LSB 448)

This email should land in your inbox about the time that Jesus cried out with a loud voice and gave up His spirit. “It is finished.” There’s nothing left to be done for sin and death. The sin of the world has been paid for. Death has taken hold of the Son of God only to be trampled underfoot in a few days. Jesus Christ, true God and true man, had died and will rise. This is the heart and center of our Christian faith. It is the birth and life of the church. It is the salvation of sinners. It is the love of God on display. Strip everything away and we are left with this: Christ, crucified for sinners. For you and me. Christ risen on Easter and the devil and death running away scared. Baptized into Him. Joined with Him at His Supper. Good News ringing in our ears of a new creation and new life. The world just goes about its business, but the Holy Christian Church has taken this week to remember and rejoice in all that Jesus has done. You too, take time to remember and rejoice. It is a great blessing that we can be together in person this Easter. Whether you are here at church or watching online, know that all Jesus accomplished is for you!

GOOD FRIDAY CHIEF SERVICE TONIGHT

Join us tonight at 7pm for the Chief Service of Good Friday. This service includes the Passion according to St. John and the Service of Darkness as well as the Lord’s Supper, where we “proclaim His death until He comes.”

SATURDAY EASTER VIGIL

Join us tomorrow at 6pm for the Service of Light, Readings, Baptismal Remembrance, Prayer, the Word, and the Sacrament. The Easter Vigil is a time for the church to eagerly await the coming of Easter and the celebration of Christ’s triumphant exit alive from the grave forevermore. It is the fulfillment of all of God’s promises and He gives the gifts that make us certain His salvation is ours.

EASTER SUNDAY DIVINE SERVICES

Join us at one of our three Divine Services on Easter Sunday at 7:45am, 9:00am, and 10:30am. Here we will “keep the Paschal Feast” and celebrate our Lord’s triumph over death and the eternal life He has won for us.

CHILDREN! – Make sure to get your Easter gift, compliments of Zion’s Board of Outreach. These will be available and handed out after each service on Sunday.

LIVE STREAM INFORMATION

Friday and Saturday services will be live-streamed and recorded. The 7:45 Easter service will be live-streamed and recorded. Thank you Ryan and Kathy!

The simplest way to watch online (not live) is probably through our church’s website HERE.

“It is finished!” That is relief for us. No more trying to bargain with God; no more trying to make up for our bad with attempts at good; no more trying to impress God; no more trying to be better than others. “It is finished.” Jesus has done the work. He lived a perfect life. He died our death. He makes us God’s children and has forgiven all of our sins. Now there is nothing but to rest and enjoy the salvation He has won for us freely and gives us freely. The Divine Service is a celebration of God’s people at the mighty works and wonders Jesus has done. The “outstretched arm” of the Lord upon the cross has delivered us now and forever. A blessed celebration of our Lord’s death to everyone and a blessed and Happy Easter as we celebrate His resurrection. See you in the Divine Service tonight, tomorrow, and Sunday!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
