Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

First of all, thank you for all your prayers for me for my hernia surgery on Tuesday. It went well and the discomfort was pretty minor, so thanks be to God for that!

This Sunday is the one where we hear that our Heavenly Father takes care of the birds of the air and will take of us too! How can we be sure? Well, first of all, if you look at your car windshield, you can see that He’s taking care of the birds! More than that, it’s Jesus who teaches us these words, the Bread of Life who not only gives us our daily bread but gives His life into death for our salvation. Worry is a wicked thing. It drags us down and consumes us, turns us inward to only think about our problems, and causes us to forget God’s goodness. So Jesus tells us not to worry. He doesn’t mean, “suck it up, buttercup!” He means to trust in Him because He actually takes care of anything we could worry about: need, want, sickness, suffering, even death— all taken care of by our Savior. Your reminder that you don’t need to worry because you have a Heavenly Father is your baptism and body and blood of Jesus. In baptism, you have clothes! In the Supper you have food! Even better clothes and food than the stuff we get all worked up about every day. That’s our Gospel this week, the 15th Sunday after Trinity.

SERVICE FOR WALLY KOEPKE

If you’d like to give thanks for Wally’s life and the gift of Jesus’ resurrection, Wally’s graveside service is tomorrow at 11am at Woodland Cemetery in McHenry (on Rt. 31). You’re welcome to attend.

Sunday Bible Studies:
Take time to grow in God’s Word. Our opportunities to grow in God’s Word on Sundays are back:

Learning the Faith (all ages) – 9:45-10:30am in the Gym.
As always, you can join us Tuesdays in the Narthex at 10:30am, reading the Gospel According to St. Matthew.

LCMS DISASTER RELIEF:
It’s certainly been a whilrwind of natural disasters lately from fires to storms all around our country and the world. LCMS Disaster Relief is on the front lines in many places to help those who have been displaced or are in need. If you’d like to help out, you can make an offering directly to LCMS Disaster Relief RIGHT HERE. Click the “Give” button or select a particular area to give.

We often tell others “Don’t worry!” because we aren’t sure what to say. We often tell ourselves not to worry and then we worry anyway, not seeing how there is a way out of whatever is troubling us. The thing about Jesus is that He’s already taken care of everything. He’s taken care of sin. He’s taken care of death. And He’ll take care of every other bit of your life so that you need truly never worry. He’ll even forgive you when you worry! So remember: your Heavenly Father knows what you need. He’s given His Son and He’ll take care of the rest for you too! See you this weekend in church online!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
