This week’s email is a day earlier. Tonight, with the Maundy Thursday Divine Service, we begin the Triddum, the Holy Three Days. From Maundy Thursday through Good Friday and then to the end of the Easter Vigil, it’s kind of like one worship service as we follow Jesus from the Upper Room to Gethsemane, to the house of the high priest, to the Governor’s Praetorium, to Calvary, to the tomb, and then an empty tomb. On Maundy Thursday Jesus gives His disciples a new command, to “love one another.” On Good Friday we see the basis of love, God’s love, in the death of His Son for the sins of the world. On Saturday Jesus rests in death in the tomb while we are reminded of the myriad ways the Lord has loved His people. On Easter we see how that love triumphs over death because Christ is risen from the dead. This is God’s love: Jesus. Jesus who gives His life for you. Jesus who rises for you. Jesus who gives you the Sacrament whereby He confirms and reminds you of His love over and over. As we continue through Holy Week, I pray you will know the love of Christ, the comfort of sins forgiven, and the hope and joy of our victory in Jesus over death itself. See you in the Triduum and Easter Divine Services!
In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
