Church News 2018-07-22

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

Watch out for false prophets! How can you tell the difference between true preaching and false preaching? Listen carefully: are you hearing about you? Or hearing about Jesus? Is the message about what you can do for God or what Jesus has done for you? The fruit of a good tree is the fruit of Jesus’ suffering and death for your salvation! Come hear more this weekend, the Eighth Sunday after Trinity.

We’ve heard some sad news this week. Due to financial reasons, the Board of Faith Lutheran High School has voted to close the school effective immediately. However, there is a potential ray of hope. The Board is going to meet again in two weeks to see if it is feasible to keep the doors open based on the fundraising attempts of students, families, and association churches. Since every little bit helps, we’re going to have a Door Offering this weekend and next after both services. Please consider contributing in order to help them make the decision to stay open and provide a Lutheran option for high school in the area!

Dont’ forget this Sunday is the Fiesta Days Parade! Zion will be walking and you are invited to join us! We’ll meet at church at Noon and head over to our lineup station by 12:30. We will be in Division 3, lining up on the West side of the Metra station downtown. Wear your Lions gear or the color purple! Bring water and candy to pass out! (We’ll also have some candy to pass out too).

See you this weekend in the Divine Service!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
