ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Friday, June 14, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. One God. Three Persons. Three Persons. One God. That’s the mystery of the Feast Day of the Holy Trinity which we celebrate this weekend. But what does it all mean? Why do we say the Athanasian Creed? Why do we get so detailed about trying to “explain” the Holy Trinity? Well, we’re really just saying what the Bible teaches us about God. There is one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We say the Creed to be reminded of what is true about God and what is not. But we learn of God not from fancy words, but from Jesus. What really matters is how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are working together to save you and be your God. Hear about it this weekend as we celebrate Trinity Sunday.

We had an awesome VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL this past week. We learned about God’s “Miraculous Mission” to save us. God made us. God keeps His Word. Jesus came for us. Jesus saves us. Jesus is coming for us. We’ll have children who participated in VBS sing some of the songs they learned this week in church on Sunday. They had a lot of fun! Thank you for your prayers and support for our VBS this year!

Don’t forget: our CHURCH PICNIC is next Sunday, June 23. We will NOT have Learning the Faith. Instead, we’ll have all hands on deck helping get ready for the picnic which will begin around Noon. We need helpers to carry tables, chairs, and help get things set up. We also need help cleaning up and there is food we can bring. You can sign up for some or all that we need on the board in the Narthex! Plan to spend a nice Summer afternoon with your brothers and sisters in Christ!

Also next Sunday, there will be a closing service for FAITH LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Union, at 4:00 PM. All are invited as we wrap up the school year and FLHS’s over 15 year ministry to young people.

You can still sign up for HIGHER THINGS FOR A DAY. We’re taking a trip to Concordia University Chicago (River Forest) on Wednesday, July 3, to experience the awesomeness that is an HT conference. If you did sign up, you can pay your $65 to Zion and mark it for “HTFAD.”

Just a heads up too, that I will be out of town this coming Tuesday through Friday. We’re taking a trip down south to see some former friends in Du Quoin and the area. I will be back for service on Saturday. If you need anything, please call Brandy in the Church Office or get a hold of your elder!

It’s Father’s Day on Sunday! What better gift for Dad than to let him bring the family to church! And we get to hear of God our Father who loved us in the sending of His Son Jesus to be our Savior.

See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
