This weekend and next Wednesday, we’re observing the Feast of the Reformation. Above anything else, the Reformation is about Martin Luther discovering that the Bible is GOOD NEWS. It’s Good News because we can’t save ourselves and don’t have to: Jesus came to save us. It’s Good News because whatever sins we have are forgiven. It’s Good News because we have hope in Christ and the promise of everlasting life. We don’t often hear good news in our world but the church is place to hear it every time we are gathered here. Want some Good News? There’s no better news than Jesus and what He has done and still does for us! That’s this weekend and week as we celebrate Reformation!
After the Divine Service this week, join us for a special Learning the Faith in the Gym where we’ll discover THE TRUE MEANING OF HALLOWEEN. How is this holiday ever related to the Christian faith? Does it even have anything to do with Jesus? Why did Martin Luther start the Reformation on October 31? Come and bring all your questions about everything Halloween related.
TRUNK OR TREAT is at NOON on Sunday (following Learning the Faith). We’ll set up and decorate tables at 11:30am. If you’d like to participate, you can decorate a table and pass out candy. Invite all your friends and family members to come and go table to table for treats! We’ll also have pizza and drinks available for purchases for lunch! It’s going to be a fun Sunday filled with fun fall activities!
Speaking of Halloween, please save your LEFTOVER HALLOWEEN CANDYif you have some. We’d appreciate it if you’d consider donating it for our Higher Things Retreat in a couple of weeks. You can bring it to church next weekend.
Next Sunday, November 3 and Wednesday, November 6, we’ll be observing All Saints Day. We’ll have the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed on those days, remembering those who have fallen asleep in Christ since last year. Please note we’ll have Divine Services on Sunday and Wednesday for Reformation and All Saints, with different sermons on each of those days.
Our next big activity is our HIGHER THINGS RETREAT on Friday and Saturday, November 8 and 9. YOUTH: Please sign up to attend. Everyone from the congregation is welcome to stop by anytime to join us in worship, learning the Word, and hanging out and having fun. If you’re able to help with setting up, serving, or clean up, please let me or Liz Stade know.
Our school is having a VETERANS celebration on Tuesday, November 12 at 11:00 AM. Vets and those who wish to show their appreciation to those who have served are invited for a special Chapel service, Honor Guard presenting honors, and a luncheon. Thank you to those who served!
Keep bringing gifts for our OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD BOXES! This week we are collecting: ★Bring in anything from the previous weeks (pick up a green sheet in the narthex)
Gearing up to make the boxes for OCC-still taking last minute donations of items & money
As we race through Fall, it always seems like we’re ramping up the acitivites and things to do around church. It’s great to be a family in Christ and enjoy fellowship with one another! But above all, we have fellowship in this Good News of Jesus’ love and salvation.See you in the Divine Service!
In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
