For the Third Sunday after the Epiphany this weekend (and Wednesday), we’ll hear about the centurion who told Jesus, “I am not worthy for you to come under my roof. Just say the word and my servant will be healed.” Jesus says He has never seen faith like that! Faith doesn’t trust in itself. To have faith doesn’t mean we trust in ourselves. Faith means we believe in and trust Jesus. His Word does what it says and faith says, “Yeah, Jesus can do that, because He’s Jesus. The Son of God.” This centurion teaches us repentance and faith. The repentance of thinking we’re worthy of God doing anything for us. Faith which trusts Jesus because He’s the Savior and that’s what He does: saves us!
ZAP’s ROAST BEEF DINNER is SUNDAY! It begins at 11:00 AM and goes until 1:30pm. $10 all you can eat: roast beef and all the trimmings. Tickets are available at the door and takeout orders are available. Also, if you can bring a DESSERT to drop off before the dinner, that would be much appreciated. Thanks to ZAP and all they do to help those in need.
How about some extra food and fellowship this week? Join us for a WEDNESDAY SUPPER at 5:30 PM, provided by our Elders. It’s just a chance to get together as the Zion family and enjoy a time of food and fellowship. Then stick around and receive Christ’s gifts again in worship.
To believe in Jesus is to hear and believe His Word. His word does what it says. It’s why one of the big slogans of the Reformation was VDMA: Verbum Dei Manet in Aeternum; “The Word of the Lord Endures Forever.” That’s the Word that saves us. Jesus’ Words! Come hear them and be comforted by them in the Divine Service! See you there!
In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
