Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
One of the things I learned early on as a parent is that when my children learned to talk back, they probably learned it from me! Our mouths tend to say things that we hear. Some juicy gossip? Just have to tell it! Dropping cuss words? Don’t be surprised if your kids repeat them! What goes in our ears comes out of our mouth. For the poor guy that Jesus meets in this week’s Gospel, nothing goes in so nothing comes out. He can’t hear and he can’t speak. Until Jesus speaks. Jesus’ word opens his ears and loosens his tongue (with a non-Covid-guildlines touching of the guy’s ears and tongue too)! Jesus speaks His Word. That Word goes in our ears and reorients us to the world. It drives out the trash we usually hear with a word of mercy, grace, kindness, and forgiveness from God. It’s such a powerful Word that it opens our mouths to speak the praises of God! As we celebrate the 12th Sunday after Trinity, our ears will be filled with Jesus’ words and our mouths will speak and sing His praises!SPIRIT WEAR AND MUMS: SPIRIT WEAR: Show your school pride. Kids get a special prize for wearing purple or Zion Lion Spirit wear on Fridays. This year, we also have masks available in Youth and Adult sizes. It’s easy to ORDER ONLINE.

MUMS: Thank you for your orders! The Mums will be in and available for pick up on Thursday, September 10. We’ll have extras available for anyone who missed out, priced at just $15 each.
BIBLE STUDY AND WORSHIP SCHEDULE

The Elders and I met and we’ve worked out our worship and Bible Study schedule through September.

Bible Studies:

For the rest of August, we will not hold Sunday Bible Study between services.

Beginning Sunday, September 13, we will have Bible Studies as follows:

Bible Study – 9:00-9:30 AM in the Narthex.

Learning the Faith (all ages) – 9:45-10:30am in the Gym.

As always, you can join us Tuesdays in the Narthex at 10:30 AM

Worship Services

We will continue Sunday services at 7:45 AM and 10:30 AM at least through September. We’ll see at that time whether it would be a good idea to return to a Saturday and one Sunday service.

Labor Day Weekend Late Service at Fish Lake

We will have our 10:30 AM service at Fish Lake Campground on Sunday, September 6. There will NOT be a service at church at 10:30 (7:45 will be as usual). If you’d like to join us you are welcome to do so at the Fish Lake Campground Shelter. Just let them know at the gate that you’re there for the Zion service. Masks are required for the service at Fish Lake (although it’s outdoors, with many people distancing may not be possible even in the shelter).

STREAMING:

We will continue to stream and record one of our Sunday services. These are available to watch live and recorded here:
We stream live on our FACEBOOK PAGE HERE.

Our videos are also live and recorded on YOUTUBE HERE.

The simplest way to watch online (not live) is probably through our church’s website HERE.

PARKING LOT UPDATE:
The parking lot is scheduled to be done this coming Wednesday and Thursday! Thank you to everyone who helped make this project possible.

LCMS DISASTER RELIEF:
It’s certainly been a whilrwind of natural disasters lately from fires to storms all around our country and the world. LCMS Disaster Relief is on the front lines in many places to help those who have been displaced or are in need. If you’d like to help out, you can make an offering directly to LCMS Disaster Relief RIGHT HERE. Click the “Give” button or select a particular area to give.

Let’s fill  our ears with God’s Word so that good things come out of our mouths! That’s always a good reminder and we thank the Lord for opening our ears to hear His Word and opening our lips to declare His praise! See you in worship or see us online this weekend!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
