Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Do you fear the Lord’s judgement? Are you ready for the day? The world will be surprised when Jesus shows up. But you won’t! Because He’s told you He’s coming. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe in years. We don’t ‘know when but we know that He Himself has told us and so that makes us ready. His death and resurrection mean that for you, Judgement Day has already happened. Your baptism and His Body and Blood are His promises and seal that you are ready for that day. When Jesus returns, the world will shrivel in fear. But not God’s people. We’ll lift up our heads and be glad that our salvation has come in the Lamb who returns in glory to reign forever and give us everlasting life. It’s easy to forget, which is why Jesus reminds us each year with the words we hear on the Second Sunday in Advent

ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS WORSHIP

Join us for Midweek Advent Divine Services on Wednesdays, December 9 and 16, 7:00 PM (these are different services than Sunday).

SCRIP GIFT CARDS
The School is offering Gift Cards through SCRIP. Order forms are in the Narthex. SCRIP is easy: you buy gift cards at face value our school earns a percentage back. Gift Cards are especially timely since so many are shopping online or ordering food for pickup or delivery. SCRIP orders are due THIS MONDAY, DECEMBER 7.

POINSETTIAS
It’s time to order Poinsettias! Order forms are available on the table in the Narthex. We won’t be able to deliver flowers to nursing homes this year. You can take your poinsettia after Christmas Day service or you mean leave it until Epiphany on January 6. Orders are DUE SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13.

The season of Advent falls during a time of increasing darkness. That seems appropriate as we ponder the dark world that we live in. Of course the Christmas lights already up give us a hint of the light to come, but the True Light arrives on Christmas with the birth of Jesus. Advent is a time that we look at ourselves, consider our sins and the darkness we weirdly prefer, and repent, longing for and looking for the Light of Christ. Of course, with the Word and Body and Blood of Jesus, that Light is never very far, even in the dark days of December, even in the dark days of our world. We’ll see you as we are gathered in the Light of Christ in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ,

Pastor Buetow

Advent has arrived!
