Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

God is not fair. People may often think that because they don’t like something that happened to them or they think they deserve better. But it’s really true: God is not fair. Yet not the way most people think. He’s not fair in that not only does He not give us what we deserve, He gives us what we don’t deserve: forgiveness and eternal life. This unfairness is taught by Jesus in the parable of the workers in the vineyard. They all worked for different lengths of the work day and yet all got paid the same! What is the point of that crazy story? That God can do what He wants with His goodness and it is to give it to everyone, no matter how long they’ve been a part of His kingdom. It’s why Jesus came: to bear the heat of the day in the work of dying on the cross so that when “pay day” comes, we get what He has earned for us: everlasting life! We’ll learn that this weekend as we begin the Pre-Lenten season with Septuagesima (about 70 days before Easter).

We will have our re-scheduled and re-scheduled Voters Meeting THIS SUNDAY at 9:00 AM in the gym. Since this is a regular meeting, a quorum is anyone who is in attendance. So we’re planning to go ahead even with the prospect of some more snow. Be safe as you venture out!

Why should we be upset that God’s grace is for everyone? Be happy! That means His grace is for us too! The workers in the vineyard is one of my favorite parables because it’s really so improbably and yet tells us so much about the Lord. See you in the Divine Service!
In Christ,

Pastor Buetow
