Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

To one degree or another, if we were faced with the temptations put to Jesus, we would have given in at some point, maybe even quickly! When the Tempter comes to go after Jesus, He holds fast to the Word of God. Letting go of the Word of God was what got Adam and Eve in trouble and brought sin into the world. Ignoring and denying God’s Word is death. Jesus doesn’t save us from the devil and temptation by being an example of how to do it. His victory over the evil one is yours because you are joined to Jesus in baptism and by His body and blood. To put it another way, if the devil can’t defeat Jesus, he can’t get to you without going through Jesus; and we know how that turned out! Jesus is tempted for you. He is faithful for you. He defeats the evil one for you. That’s the Good News of the First Sunday in Lent coming up!

LENTEN MIDWEEK WORSHIP
Make sure during Lent to take some extra time during the week for God’s Word and gifts. Join us Wednesdays at 7:00 PM for a Divine Service that is different from Sunday’s. We’ll be hearing how each of the Commandments plays a part in our Lord’s suffering and death. This week it’s the Fifth Commandment: You shall not murder. Come grow in the faith and be refreshed by Jesus.

Bible Studies:
Lent is a good time to recommit to growing God’s Word. Join us for one of our weekly Bible Studies. You don’t have to read out loud and you don’t have to know all the answers. We learn together as we read God’s Word together.

Sundays:

Bible Study – 9:00-9:30 AM in the Narthex. Reading the prophet Isaiah.

Learning the Faith (all ages) – 9:45-10:30am in the Gym.

Tuesdays – Bible Study at 10:30am in the Narthex. Gospel According to St. Matthew.

The simplest way to watch online (not live) is probably through our church’s website HERE.

Why did God put that tree in the garden of Eden if He knew Adam and Eve would sin? He did it to teach them and us that “man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” You can go without food for a long time. But you can’t go without God’s Word! His Word gives us life, saves us from our sins, and promises resurrection and life everlasting. His Word became flesh to save us from sin, death, and the devil. His Word is the true food by which we are sustained now and forever. Come feast on the food of God’s Word! See you in the Divine Service.

In Christ,

Pastor Buetow
