Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I know, I know. You don’t like the bulletin cover (the same graphic as the email) for Oculi. It’s gross. It’s a demon-snake coming out of a guy’s mouth! Well, can you imagine what it must have been like for the man who was possessed by that demon? Who was controlled by the devil? Who’s mind and heart and life were captive to the father of lies and the one who is a murderer and liar? Imagine what it must have felt like when the evil spirit left him. . Freedom! Peace! Relief! Life! This is the third Sunday in a row that we hear Jesus going toe-to-toe with the devil. At His temptation, with the “dog lady” and now with this guy. And the score right now is Jesus, 3 – Satan, 0! When the devil goes against Jesus he’ll never show a point on that scoreboard. The “finger of God” points to the devil and says, “begone!” Jesus’ Word drives the devil away. His Word destroys and dismantles the devil’s kingdom by removing us from the evil one and making us children of God. It’s a battle he waged throughout His ministry and the final battle was on Good Friday, on Calvary. When Jesus finally says, “It is finished,” so is Satan. Our life as Christians is to be reminded of that victory of Jesus over the devil over and over so we never forget. Reminded even by a creepy picture on our bulletin cover! That’s “Oculi” Sunday, the third Sunday in Lent. All eyes on Jesus!

LENTEN MIDWEEK WORSHIP
Make sure during Lent to take some extra time during the week for God’s Word and gifts. Join us Wednesdays at 7:00 PM for a Divine Service that is different from Sunday’s. We’ll be hearing how each of the Commandments plays a part in our Lord’s suffering and death. This week it’s the Seventh Commandment: You shall not steal. Come grow in the faith and be refreshed by Jesus.

Bible Studies:
Lent is a good time to recommit to growing in God’s Word. Join us for one of our weekly Bible Studies. You don’t have to read out loud and you don’t have to know all the answers. We learn together as we read God’s Word together.

Sundays:

Bible Study – 9:00-9:30 AM in the Narthex. Reading the prophet Isaiah.

Learning the Faith (all ages) – 9:45-10:30am in the Gym.

Tuesdays – Bible Study at 10:30am in the Narthex. Gospel According to St. Matthew.

STREAMING LINKS
Our Sunday service is available to watch live and recorded here:

We stream live on our FACEBOOK PAGE HERE.
Our videos are also live and recorded on YOUTUBE HERE.
The simplest way to watch online (not live) is probably through our church’s website HERE.

Despite the power Jesus demonstrates in driving out a demon, his human enemies don’t miss a beat trying to accuse him. Jesus doesn’t care. He does what he came to do: drive out Satan and save the world from sin and death. Their hatred will only be a part of the way Jesus will be accused and condemned. When He dies and rises, and when we are baptized into His Name, we have no doubt that the evil foe truly has now power over us. See you in the Divine Service!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
