Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Jesus tells us to ask for anything of the Father in His Name. God always hears our prayers. He always answers them, too. He doesn’t always answer them the way we may think we want, but He always answers them for our good. That’s why Jesus tells us to pray in His Name. To praying “in the Name of Jesus” doesn’t just mean adding those words to our prayers. It means that we come to our Heavenly Father with every care and need, trusting that He loves and hears us for the sake of His Son, Jesus. Jesus died for you and rose again. He made you a child of God. How can God not pay attention when you call upon Him in every trouble, when you pray, and when you give thanks? As the Catechism reminds us: we pray because God tells us to but also because He promises to hear us. While we may not see the answer we think we want instantly, have no doubt that because of Jesus, God the Father hears and answers your prayers and is working all things out for your good. That’s what we’re celebrating this Sunday, “Rogate!” (Ask!) Sunday, the Sixth Sunday of Easter.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS BACK
We’ll be having VBS this Summer, the week of June 7-11. If you’d be willing to help us make it happen, let Pastor know. Our next VBS Planning Meeting is Sunday, May 16 after the Late Service.

Prayer is hard. It doesn’t come naturally. That’s why Jesus teaches us to pray in His Name. It’s why He gave us the Lord’s Prayer. It’s why we have the Psalms. The Lord gives us the very words we can always use to call upon His Name and grab hold of His promises. Faith cries out in need and ends with the “Amen!” That is, “Yes, yes, it shall be so!” See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
