ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Friday, June 21, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

Whoa! What a freaky bulletin cover! It’s the rich man who was in torment because he hated God. He did? He did, because he showed zero love for his neighbor, Lazarus. Jesus speaks to us this weekend of having our reward in this life versus the life to come. But Jesus came to give us life everlasting and to rescue us from our selfishness and and show us that truly loving God means truly loving our neighbor, those around us. Hear all about it this weekend as we celebrate the First Sunday after Trinity.

This Sunday we will WELCOME NEW MEMBERS, those who have transferred or are joining since the last time we received new members. We’ll also have leaders from our church sharing about what they do and how new folks can become more involved in the life of the congregation. It’s going to be a great Sunday!

We will NOT have Learning the Faith this week after worship. Rather, we’re asking for “all hands on deck” to help set up for our CHURCH PICNIC that will begin around Noon. If you haven’t signed up to help or bring something, you can still do so. We just want you there to enjoy fellowship with your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Also on Sunday, at 4:00 PM, there will be a Closing Worship Service for FAITH LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL. As members of the High School Association, members of Zion are invited to come for this last service closing the school year and at the closing of the high school. We are grateful for the years of ministry Faith Lutheran provided to many young people who received a great education and one centered in Christ! If you want to go with us for HIGHER THINGS FOR A DAY at Concordia University Chicago (River Forest) sign up on the sheet in the Narthex and let Pastor know. Cost is $65 and includes a T-shirt and meals on campus. Our date is Wednesday, July 3. If you signed up, you can pay your money to Zion and mark checks with “HTFAD.”

Summer is in full swing and I hope everyone gets a chance to rest and recharge. Don’t forget the best way is to hear the Lord’s Word. After all, church isn’t work, it’s Jesus lifting our burdens from us!

See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
