Church News August 17, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

Ephphatha! Say what? It means “Be opened!” A man who couldn’t hear, couldn’t speak. Usually what goes in our ears comes out of our mouths. We hear bad things, we repeat bad things. But Jesus opens our ears to His Word so that we would hear and believe and be saved. Then our mouths are opened too, to confess and sing the praises of our Savior! That’s what we’ll hear this weekend as we celebrate the 12th Sunday after Trinity.

School has begun. All over, children are returning to school. At Zion, we had our Back-To-School night this past Thursday and the first day of school is Tuesday. We’ll be installing our teachers during the service this weekend on Sunday. If you have a minute after church, take a stroll through the school and check out our classrooms all ready to go! Thank you to our Board of Christian Day School, Trustees, and Zion Parents Network for helping get ready for new year!

The Zion Parents Network has its first two usual fundraisers to kick off the year: MUMS and the SPIRIT WEAR. Please consider ordering some of the beautiful mums and some great clothing items to support our school. This year we also have CHURCH items in our spirit wear. Order forms will be in the narthex along with a picture of the Spirit Wear to help you pick your order.

You’ve heard me mention that we are enrolling catechumens for First Communion and that there isn’t really any minimum or maximum age. Children will attend Learning the Faith with their parents throughout the year and be prepared to receive Jesus’ body and blood next Spring. We are doing this because all of our children need the gifts of Christ’ forgiveness, life, and salvation that are given in the Sacrament. I’ll be speaking more about this but everything kicks off on Rally Day on September 9. If you have questions or wish to enroll your child, let me know!

We’ll see you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
