God says, “Let there be light.” And there was light. Jesus says, “Your son is healed.” The man’s son was healed. Jesus says, “Your sins are forgiven.” You guessed it: your sins are forgiven. This is the power of the Word of God. It does what it says. And Jesus speaks His Word to save us from sin, death, and the devil. When we are in church, we hear that Word that forgives and saves us. Because it’s the Word of God. So we hear this 21st Sunday after Trinity.
Join us Sunday afternoon and evening for some games and a bonfire. We’ll play some games at 4pm and the bonfire will get going around 6pm (We moved it up a little earlier). Bring some food and drinks to share and we’ll enjoy a Fall Evening warmed by fire and fellowship.
Next Sunday, the 28th, we’ll celebrate the Reformation with lots of great music in church including pieces by our choir and the school children singing. After Learning the Faith we have our Trunk-Or-Treat at Noon. Invite all your family and friends to join in decorating their vehicles, passing out treats, and dressing up. There will be some games for the children as well as pizza and drinks on sale for lunch!
Our Higher Things Retreat is just around the corner on Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3. We’ll be asking for some donations for purchasing food and other supplies. Please help out Sunday if you can by putting a donation in the basket in the narthex. Also, if you have time to help with setup, serving, or cleanup, please let Pastor, Liz Stade, or Kathy Hicks know. Thanks for welcoming our guests!
It’s been a busy week with many who have passed away. We remember that Christ has the victory over death and that we are gathered with them around Jesus at the Sacrament, with “angels, archangels, and all the company of heaven!” Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
See you in the Divine Service this weekend!
In Christ, Pastor Buetow
