When Martin Luther was at the church door on October 31, 1517, it wasn’t for trick or treating! It was to start a conversation about stripping away all the junk that had been added in the church to get back to the one thing most important: Jesus and the free salvation that we have for His sake. This weekend we are celebrating the Reformation. It’s not about Martin Luther. It’s about the Lord bringing back the Good News of Jesus in a day when it had all but been forgotten. Our church always needs to hear that Good News! Grace alone! Faith alone! Scripture alone! Christ alone!
We’ve got lots of great music in worship this weekend and both our church choir and our school children will be singing in the service.
Join us for a special Learning the Faith after worship this Sunday as we talk about Halloween and Reformation and answer your questions about ghosts and other stuff that sounds spooky but isn’t, because Jesus wins the victory! Come and learn about these special days and bring your questions!
At Noon on Sunday we’ve got our annual Trunk-Or-Treat. Everyone is invited to participate: decorate your vehicle and pass out candy. Dress up in costume. There will be games for kids and we’ll have pizza and drinks for sale for lunch. It’s going to be a lot of fun!
Next weekend we’ve got our Higher Things Retreat! We’re expecting around 50 or so guests Friday and Saturday with a day and a half of worship, learning the Word and fun! Join us for any of the worship services, especially Evening Prayer out by the fire! Please consider donating something for us to use for supplies and food. And don’t forget we need your extra and leftover Halloween candy! Next Saturday during the retreat we are having a packing party for Operation Christmas Child from 9am to Noon. Come pack and wrap!
Martin Luther turned ears and hearts back to Jesus by clearly proclaiming God’s Word. Our Savior is the center of our worship this weekend. We’ll see you in the Divine Service!
In Christ, Pastor Buetow
