ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Friday, November 16, 2018

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

What are your idols? What in your life takes God’s place? What will rescue you from your gods that can’t save you? Jesus! The difference between Jesus and our idols is that He can actually save us and get rid of our sins and give us eternal life. In order to do that, He takes on our sin and becomes our sin. He becomes the “abomination of desolation.” Hear more this weekend as we mark the 25th Sunday after Trinity.

This Sunday is our Semi-Annual Voters Meeting! The meeting will start around 10:30am. Please note that there is no Learning the Faith this week (though I’ll be meeting with the Catechumens briefly in the church after worship). Please plan to attend the Voters Meeting we will discuss matters of business for our congregation. In particular we’ll be asked to approve a couple of Endowment Fund requests. We’ll also be discussing vacant positions on the Council and some boards and considering the need for some changes to our bylaws in the near future. It will be a good chance to check in with our Council and to help support one another in the body of Christ.

Our school is having its Fall Scholastic Book Fair. We’d love you to stop by after church and see what’s for sale. Maybe do some early Christmas shopping or consider gifting our teachers with books on their wishlists. The Book Fair is set up in the gym so come and browse!

This Wednesday is our Thanksgiving Eve service. Remember to take time out over this coming holiday time to give thanks for all the good things the Lord has given!

The Lord has rescued us from our idols and their darkness and gathers us around His gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation.

See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
