“She’s not dead. She’s sleeping.” And then they LAUGHED at Jesus! But there it is. Jesus destroys the power of death so that He can say even to a dead girl: “Wake up.” So that even a woman who has been sick for years can touch his robe and be healed. Your faith-your Jesus-saves you. We’ll hear this Good News this weekend as we celebrate the 24th Sunday after Trinity.
Thank you to everyone for the support and donations and work for Operation Christmas Child. We had a goal of 150 boxes and we are now over 200! It’s been a great mission project where school and church and young and old and even our Youth Retreat attendees all helped pack boxes and wrap them for shipping. We’ll be delivering them this week for their shipment around the world. We even have a donor who is paying for all of the shipping! Thanks Zion!
We’re having our school’s Annual Veterans Day service this Monday at 11am. Everyone is invited as we give thanks to God for the service of our veterans. The VFW Honor Guard will be at Zion and will present honors to the flag. There is a cake and punch reception after that. Join us!
You may have heard that your pastor has written a book that has been published. A few years ago I worked on “The Catechism Prayer Book.” It’s a series of longer devotional type prayers based on the words of the Catechism (as Luther wanted the Catechism to be used). Higher Things has picked up the manuscript and now publishes it through Amazon. You can order a copy there or you can order through church. There’s a sign-up sheet in the narthex and the cost is $9 per copy. We’ll place the orders and have them delivered to church and let you know when they’re in. I think it’s a great resource for adding to your devotions.
Come out to Chuck E. Cheese next Friday for our school’s next dinner fundraiser. From 3-9pm, mention Zion and we’ll make 15% on sales and tickets, etc. Thanks for supporting our school.
Here’s a few dates for your calendar:
Voters Meeting – Sunday, November 18, after church (about 10:30am)
Decorating for Christmas – Sunday, December 2, following Learning the Faith (about 11:30am and we’ll have lunch!)
Live Nativity – Saturday, December 8, 4-7pm. Sign-up to help in the narthex!
As always, things get busy as the holidays approach. Let’s remember to check on those we haven’t seen in awhile, pray for those who have a hard time during the holidays, and remember to take time to be in worship receiving the Lord’s gifts!
We’ll see you this weekend in the Divine Service!
In Christ, Pastor Buetow
