Church News January 18, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

Who doesn’t love a wedding? A good party? Jesus’ first sign was to change the water into wine at the wedding of Cana. That right there tells us something about who Jesus is and what He came to do. From the water to the wine at Cana we see all the way to the water and blood of the cross. There, Jesus takes a Bride, His holy, Christian church, to be His own. And that means salvation is a celebration. We’ll have a foretaste of this wedding feast this weekend as we celebrate the Second Sunday after the Epiphany.

If you haven’t heard yet, our Administrative Assistant Brandy Curtis’ sister Nicole passed away this past week from brain cancer. She had become a member of Zion under my pastoral care. Her service will be tomorrow at Zion (details below). Also, long time and former Zion member Jack Anderson passed away last week as well. His arrangements are also listed below. We pray the weather won’t hinder folks from paying their respects and celebrating the resurrection to everlasting life.

“Zion Family Giving” is what we’re calling all our efforts to help meet immediate needs for our brothers and sisters who need help in any way. Look for the little church “bank” in the narthex and find a tag of something that is needed and see whether you are able to help contribute to help one of our own of the household of faith.

In conjunction with that, ZAP’s Annual Roast Beef dinner is NEXT SUNDAY. Get your tickets from a ZAP member, the Church Office, or at the door. Money raised helps our Zion Assistance Program (ZAP) as it helps those in need. Zion Family Giving is handled through ZAP so it’s a great opportunity to care for one another!

Wine at a wedding ran out but Jesus’ gifts never run out! Receive them again soon.

See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
