Prayer isn’t what we think. It’s not us telling God what we want and hoping He gives it to us. True prayer, offered up in Jesus’ name, because Jesus has brought us to the Father, is learning to trust in whatever God has for us, asking all things in faith and receiving all things in faith. Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure by telling them that they will ask the Father and He will hear their prayers. Hear more as we worship and pray and celebrate the Sixth Sunday of Easter this weekend.
Make sure to join us for our PICNIC AND HIKE on SUNDAY, JUNE 9 at NOON. We’ll meet and eat (bring your picnic lunch) at the Harts Road Shelter at Glacial Park. We’ll do some hiking and try to find some geocaches while we are at it. ALL AGES are welcome. Come to eat. Come to hike. Or just come to hang out and have fellowship with everyone.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is JUNE 10-14, 9-11:30 AM. We’re grateful for your DONATIONSfor supplies and materials. (There are VBS envelopes in the narthex if you’d like to use those). VOLUNTEERS: Make sure to be at the meeting SUNDAY, JUNE 2 at 11:15 AM. Thanks, everyone for your support! If you have children you want to register for VBS, use THIS LINK.
Want to see what Higher Things is all about? You’ll have a chance on WEDNESDAY, JULY 3 as part of HIGHER THINGS FOR A DAY. If you’d like to join us at Concordia Chicago (River Forest), sign up in the narthex and we’ll get you more information. Cost is $65 which includes an HT shirt, meals, and all the breakaways and worship at the conference.
Our services at FISH LAKE start up this weekend. We have Sunday School at 9:45 AM and a worship service at 10:30 AM at the Fish Lake Campground. Thanks to the many volunteers who help with these services. If you’re out there, check it out.
As we head into summer, please remember to support your congregation with your regular offerings, even if you will be traveling and away from home for awhile. Think about giving in advance or making up when you return. Summer tends to have “low months” for offerings but the work of the Lord’s church doesn’t take a vacation. Thank you!
When I was ordained, one of my friends spoke a verse to me that we’ll hear this weekend: “Jesus said, In this world you will have tribulation. Take heart! I have overcome the world.” That has always been an enormously comforting verse to me in the ministry the Lord has given. I look forward to rejoicing in those words again.
See you in the Divine Service this weekend!
In Christ, Pastor Buetow
