ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Friday, August 16, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

You know the world knows how to waste its mammon trying to be happy. What about Christians? Do we know how to waste the “currency” that belongs to Jesus? What is that even? How about forgiveness? Are we as free with forgiveness as the world is with its money? Would we give away forgiveness for others the way the world spends its cash to make friends? That’s what Jesus is getting at when He tells the story of the Unjust Steward (or the Shrewd Manager). We’ll hear about this weekend as we celebrate the Ninth Sunday after Trinity.

CAR WASH TOMORROW! Make sure to come by church tomorrow (Saturday) from 9am-3pm for the Eagle Scout CAR WASH. Get your vehicle nice and dirty and let the Scouts make it shine! Donations will go toward the SWING SET that Ethan Luedke is building for our school for his Eagle Scout Project. Thanks for your support of this project!

TEACHER INSTALLATION. We’re going to Install our Dayschool Teachers this Sunday during the service. Back-To-School Night was yesterday and school starts Monday! We’re all ready to welcome our new and returning families for another great School Year!

In worship, Christ gives us gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation. That forgiveness of sins is the “currency” of the Christian Church and Jesus gives it to us so that we may spend it freely on others so that they and we can rejoice in the eternal kingdom Jesus has for us.

See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ, Pastor Buetow
