ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Friday, September 20, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

What’s up with all these Samaritans? This week we hear of the ten lepers Jesus healed, only one of whom came back to give glory to God. And he was a Samaritan! Samaritans surprise us because they were despised by the other Jews in the Bible. They were “those people” that nobody liked. But they teach us an awful lot, the big lesson being that we live by God’s grace and mercy in Jesus Christ. Come hear what Jesus did for this Samaritan and for you as we celebrate the 14th Sunday after Trinity this weekend.

Hey, kids! HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH, specifically. We’re getting together THIS SUNDAY (SEPT. 22) AT 3:00 PM to discuss Higher Things Conference Options for next summer AND planning some activities. Come out and bring your parents and let’s plan to hang out once in awhile. After the meeting, stick around for Game Night!

Speaking of GAME NIGHT: It’s THIS SUNDAY at 4:00 PM. Bring your favorite tabletop games: card games, boardgames, whatever you like to play. Bring snacks to share, too! All ages are invited and Game Night is always lots of fun.

It’s OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD time again. Here’s a list of items we are collecting 9/21/19-9/29/19 for our Operation Christmas Child boxes:★Shoe boxes – cardboard or plastic

★Toothbrushes, dental floss, dental picks

★Bars of soap – NO LIQUID SOAP

★Washcloths

★Combs & brushes

★Hair clips, ribbons accessories

★Sunglasses & flip flops

★Sewing Kits, Real tools (screwdrivers, hammers, nails, screws)

Our goal this year is 200 boxes though I bet we can surpass that like we did last year when we made 256!

Keep those CAPS coming to feed our lions! It turns out that 250 pounds will build an 8 foot bench so we’re going to go for two! That’s 500 pounds of caps but guess what? We’re already half way there! Keep bringing them in and our school kids will keep cleaning and weighing them (along with some adult help too!).

Jesus healed ten lepers. One came back to say “thank you?” What can you even do to thank God? How about “take up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord!” In other words, the best way to say “Thank You” to God is to come and receive more of the good gifts He loves to give you!

See you in the Divine Service!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
