ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH

Friday, October 11, 2019

Dear Members and Friends of Zion,

We often head to church with the best of intentions, looking forward to being fed with God’s Word. But then our sinful nature spots something that bothers us: a child that seems too noisy, a person we’re mad at, a hymn we don’t like. Could be lots of things. When the Pharisees went to worship, they went with the purpose of keeping an eye on Jesus, of watching Him closely to see Him slip up. He doesn’t disappoint. He has mercy on a sick man and actually heals the man on the Sabbath! Because Jesus doesn’t care about our silly, false, judgey religion. He cares about saving sinners. He cares about inviting us up to the highest place with Him, by grace, to enjoy His feast. So come low in your sins this week and move up to the high place at Jesus’ altar, where He will bless you abundantly on this 17th Sunday after Trinity!

Thank you, Zion, for all your help and support of others around our church: for eating at Culver’s to support our school, for helping with our rummage sale, for bringing donations for Operation Christmas Child, and so much more. It’s a joy to see the body of Christ in action serving and loving one another.

This week’s OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD items we are highlighting for collection include:   ★Socks
★Hats, sunglasses
★T-shirts, underwear, skirts
★Small tool set
★Shoes & flip flops
★Makeup – older girls or fun play makeup for little girls

Make sure you mark your calendar and tell your friends about our TRUNK OR TREAT on Sunday, October 27 at Noon. We’ll be indoors again this year and we’ll have pizza and drinks for sale for lunch. (The candy the kids get is for dessert!)

Take a walk through the school and see all the Halloween decorations!

Reminder there’s no Tuesday Bible Study this coming week. I’ll be away at Lakelawn Resort in Delavan for our North and West Regions Pastors Conference. See you in the Divine Service this weekend!

In Christ,
Pastor Buetow
